Business Development Program
and Small Loans

Entrepreneurs join our Business Development Program at every stage — from having only an idea to running a growing business. Through a sequence of practical classes, workshops, and field trips with successful Liberian business leaders, students learn the structures, skills, and strategy needed to operate a strong business.

With support from Universal Outreach’s network of mentors, participants receive tailored guidance that helps them recognize opportunities, increase efficiency, and plan ahead for challenges. Many graduates are prepared to grow but lack access to capital — which is why our Small Loans Program exists: to give them the financial opportunity to put their business education into action.

“Before the program, I had an idea. Now I have a plan and the confidence to start my business.”
— Bendu, Business Development Program Graduate

Universal Outreach’s Small Loans Program gives hardworking entrepreneurs in Liberia the chance to build a stable income and support their families. Donors contribute anywhere from $100 to $2,000, which is loaned to a vetted entrepreneur to grow or start a business.

Each borrower receives business training and support to help ensure success. Once the loan is paid back, the same funds are re-loaned to another entrepreneur, multiplying the impact again and again. A small 3% interest is charged to cover the cost of administering the program — keeping it sustainable without extracting profit from borrowers.

Meet Sarah

Tea Shop Owner

One of our loan recipients, Sarah, runs a thriving tea shop on the outskirts of Monrovia. With a $1,000 loan, she was able to expand her menu, buy equipment, and secure a reliable supply of ingredients. Her income grew, and with careful savings she did something incredible — she purchased a piece of land for her family. Sarah continues to repay her loan on schedule, and when she’s done, her original loan will go on to support another entrepreneur with big dreams, just like hers.
